Question: What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
Answer: If I was not afraid, I would get my photo documentaries published in local and national newspapers, journals and magazines. I am afraid others may not be impacted by the depth that my documentaries show. I fear they may not be good enough to be published. Despite winning best documentary at my college and having the Chief Editor of the Sacramento Bee love my documentary, I still fear there is more work that needs to be done. In today's world, people are quick to judge without taking the time to understand. My work needs to send the right message quickly to others. I fear if it is not done properly, I will be taken wrong. Other's disagree, I have been told to stop analyzing my work and start promoting my main goal: compassion and understanding. If I was not afraid how the public would view them, I would get them published.
Question: How are you going to change the world?
Answer: Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with the impact photography has on the human heart and mind. Picking up my first camera when I was eight, I began to photograph the human experience. Since then, I have done a handful of documentaries I am very proud of. The more I photograph, the more potent my documentaries become. There are two documentaries I am very proud of, "The abuse in the Porn Industry" and "Transgenderism- living a normal life." The Transgender documentary took a year to photograph. I had to live with them and understand them completely. My goal was to show others that they too, live normal lives. This is how I plan to change the world little by little. Photography is a good form of doing this because a person's verbal and nonverbal communication can come off abrasive and taken personally. Photography leaves an imprint on your mind whether you like it or not. It is remembered. It plants little seeds in your head sprouting growth and in most cases, compassion. It can and has changed the world... I would love to continue that.
